Small commercial 2
This tariff is tailored for businesses that use between 101 and 15000 units per month, and the cost per unit is KSHs 15.60. The token cost will be at KSHs 21.95 on average.
If you don’t fit into one of the categories above, you’re a post-paid customer or a business that uses more than 415 volts. Also, your billing is distinct.
Other surges which determine the cost of tokens
You must pay several fees while purchasing tokens from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC). These charges are:
Fuel cost charge
This money will be used to generate electricity from thermal power plants. It fluctuates every month depending on the amount of thermal generated and the cost of fuel.
Forex adjustment
How Kenya shilling is performing in the forex also affects the cost of KPLC tokens. The charge on the exchange rate leads to a change in the charges of the tokens.
Inflation adjustment
Inflation on the cost of supply varies depending on domestic and foreign inflation. Starting on January 1st, KPLC will review it every six months.
WARMA Levy
This is now fixed at 0.05 cents per kilowatt-hour for hydro-power generation of 1 megawatt and above by the Water Resource Management Authority (WARMA). The WARMA charge is paired with the ERC levy for prepaid consumer’s token receipts.
Levy imposed by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

Rural Electrification Authority (REA) levy
This is now set at 5% of the unit cost and is given to the rural electrification authority to conduct rural electrification projects.
