In this article, I’ll be answering one of the questions SNAP benefits holders ask: Does IGA accept SNAP?
The SNAP benefits are meant to assist low-income families at least having food at their table. They are given an EBT card which they can use to buy food at stores that accept EBT cards.
Here we will find out if IGA accepts SNAP as means of payment. Hence know if you can visit any IGA store and after selecting what you wish to buy, use the EBT card to pay.
Does IGA accept SNAP?
Yes, IGA accepts SNAP as means of payment in stores in various States. The IGA Supermarket SNAP store in New York accepts EBT cards.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, this establishment is permitted to receive New York food stamps.
It is needed that this EBT outlet supplies specific types of meals to be eligible as a SNAP retailer.
You may find the IGA store near you doesn’t accept SNAP as a means of payment because the EBT card use differs from one state to another. It is the state which regulates the use of the snap benefits.
How to use SNAP/EBT card at IGA
In order to receive benefits, you would need to inform the cashier of which benefits you are requesting (food stamps or cash).
Once you have done this, swipe your EBT card through their point of sale terminal (debit machine) and deliver your card to the cashier.
Your four-digit PIN must be entered on the point of sale terminal, followed by the key “enter.”
The cashier will next enter the amount of your food stamp purchase, and if the amount is correct, the clerk will push the OK or Yes button on the keyboard.
When you complete the transaction, you will be given a copy of a printed receipt that includes the store name and address, the amount of your purchase, and your new food stamp balance.
Ensure to retain your receipts so that you can keep records of your purchases made with your SNAP benefits and your current New York EBT card balance, which can be found at the bottom of your receipt.
